Split bills fairly with AI receipt scanning
Snap a restaurant receipt, grocery check, or travel bill — SplitBill AI turns it into a fair, itemized split in seconds.
How it works
- Step 1
Snap a receipt
Take a photo with your phone, upload from your library, or drag & drop a receipt image. Works on iPhone, Android, and desktop — paper receipts, printouts, digital PDFs, or screenshots.
- Step 2
AI extracts every line item
Google Gemini reads your receipt and structures each item, price, tax, tip, service charge, and discount — even in Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French, or another language.
- Step 3
Assign items & share the split
Tap each person’s avatar next to the items they ordered. Download a clean summary image, or show a QR code so friends at the table can scan and open the bill on their own phone — no sign-in required on their end.
Frequently asked questions

Is SplitBill AI free?
Yes — completely free. Sign in with Google or Email to start splitting, save your bill history, and unlock the public shareable link + scan-at-the-table QR code. No payment required, ever.
Why do I need to sign in?
Sign-in lets us save your bills to your history, generate the shareable /bill/{id} link, and keep your data tied to your account so only you can edit it. It takes one tap with Google (or a quick email sign-up) and is free.
Do my friends need to sign in to view the bill?
No — only you, the bill owner, sign in. When you tap Save & Share, we generate a public link like splitbill-ai.com/bill/abc123. Anyone with the link — or who scans the QR code — can open and save the summary on their phone. Friends never need an account.
Which receipts does the AI understand?
Restaurant checks, grocery receipts, cafe and bar tabs, hotel folios, and most retail receipts. It handles multiple languages, currencies, taxes, tips, service charges, and percentage discounts automatically.
Does it handle foreign currencies and travel?
Yes. The AI auto-detects the currency from the receipt. You can also convert to your home currency with live FX rates — perfect for splitting travel costs with friends who pay each other back in different currencies.
How fair is the split when people share items?
If multiple people share a dish, the cost is divided evenly among them. Shared fees like tax and service charge are distributed proportionally to each person’s subtotal — so nobody overpays for items they didn’t order.
Is my receipt data private?
Receipt images are sent to Google Gemini for AI processing and are not used to train models. Saved bills are stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) and are public-by-link only — meaning only people with the long random URL can read them; they are not indexed publicly.
Can I save a receipt to Photos on iPhone?
Yes. The Download button uses the iOS share sheet, which has a native "Save to Photos" action so you can save or share the summary image with one tap.
